ClimateLaunchpad 2016 – LATVIA NATIONAL FINAL

On 2 August, 2016, 9 most promising cleantech innovations from Latvia with global business potential were selected to participate in final pitching show. Only 3 winning teams where chosen to star on stage in ClimateLaunchpad European Finals in Tallinn!

The conversation festival LAMPA 2016

The LAMPA conversation festival was taking place from July 1 – 2 in Cēsis castle park. Trust, sustainability and diversity – these three principles are at the heart of the LAMPA conversation festival. Many organizations and activists was involved in its creation, cooking up festival events and offering financial support. Also the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia in cooperation with Nordic Embassies in Latvia and other cooperation partners - a comics art magazin kuš! and society “Latvian Autism center”, offered several interesting events. In Workshop-tent on July 1 from 16:00 -17:45 we invited to participate in simulation - to build a future house, but on July 2 from 14:00-15:45 in the workshop with finnish artist Emmi Valve, from 16:00-17:30 on the stage DOTS, Nordic mayors met with Latvia’s mayors and discussed smart and sustainable cities.

Discussion NORDIC – BALTIC COOPERATION. A REGION IN TRANSITION

The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia and the Latvian Institute of International Affairs mark the Nordic – Baltic cooperation’s 25th anniversary and organised a public discussion NORDIC – BALTIC COOPERATION. A REGION IN TRANSITION on 25 May 2016. Opening remarks by H.E. OLLI KANTANEN – Ambassador of Finland to Latvia. Key-note speech by Dr. JOHAN STRANG – Lecturer, University of Helsinki. Panelists: VEIKO SPOLĪTIS – Member of Baltic Affairs Subcommittee of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Latvian Parliament and DIDZIS KĻAVIŅŠ – Lecturer, Riga Graduate School of Law. Moderator ILVIJA BRUĢE – Researcher, Latvian Institute of International Affairs.

Opening of the exhibition Tempora Mutantur

From May 12 till June 12 everyone is welcome to explore the Tempora Mutantur anniversary exhibition of Kutikuti at NOASS. In July the exhibition will move into Latvia's regions - Cesis, Daugavpils and Liepaja.

Finnish and Estonian poetry tour in Latvia, poetry evening in Riga

From April 26 untill 28, 2016, the Finnish poet Heli Laaksonen and Estonian poet Leelo Tungal, together with the Latvian poet and publisher Inese Zandere and poet and translator Guntars Godiņš will tour around Latvia to meet readers in libraries and schools in small towns in Latvia - in Limbaži, Zvejnieksciems, Kuldīga, Talsi and Saldus as well as in the Riga. A wider audience are invited to the event in Riga taking place on 27 April, 18.00 at the premises of Birojnīca (Bergs Bazaar).

Is Biotechonomy Development Attractive for Nordic Countries and Baltic countries?

On April 26th 2016 the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia in cooperation with Riga Technical University organised an International conference regarding recent developments of bioeconomy and biotechonomy in the Nordic and Baltic states. Jukka Teräs, Senior Research Fellow from Nordregio talked about Bioeconomy in the Nordic countries – overview, regional insights and national policies.

Baltic Fashion & Textile Riga 2016

“Baltic Fashion & Textile Riga 2016” offered an international seminar "Fashion and Design" to get acquainted with the current industry news and trends. The panel discussion on the key success factors driving the European fashion industry brought together notable speakers. One of them - Margareta van den Bosch - supported by Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Latvia. She is a creative consultant and a long-term chief designer at H&M. Currently Margareta van den Bosch is in charge of all H&M collaboration collections with the biggest fashion houses. She has worked together with Stella McCartney, Roberto Cavalli, Alexander Wang and fashion houses like Lanvin, Versace, Comme des Garcon, Marni. Margareta gets her inspiration at London’s flea markets and textile fairs in Paris. In her opinion the hardest task is to create ready-to-wear pieces, yet surprise consumers with something new every time.

Nordic Day discussion

On the eve of the Nordic Day, 22 March, a panel discussion was organised in Riga upon the initiative of Jan Widberg, Head of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia. The panel consisted of all the Nordic ambassadors residing in Latvia: H.E. Hans Brask from the Royal Danish Embassy; H.E. Olli Kantanen from the Embassy of Finland,; H.E. Steinar Egil Hagen from the Royal Norwegian Embassy; H.E. Henrik Landerholm from the Embassy of Sweden. The discussion was moderated by Rita Ruduša, executive director of the Baltic Centre for Media Excellence, and touched upon the themes of Nordic-Baltic cooperation, today’s challenges and possible future developments.
