BOOK AND LIBRARY FAIR IN GOTHENBURG, SEPTEMBER 21 - 24

Gothenburg Book Fair is the biggest meeting place for the book trade and for the people with interest in literature of the Nordic countries. This is the perfect place to meet and get in contact with the established authors and learn about the new writers from the region.

In 2006, the 22nd Gothenburg Book Fair will take place from 21st September to the 24th September and Freedom of Expression will be in focus at this time. Many writers, publishers, politicians and other intellectuals will be invited to the Gothenburg to discuss how to protect the freedom to write and to publish.

STIPEND FOR PRACTITIONERS WITHIN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SPATIAL PLANNING

Nordregio (www.nordregio.se), a research and evaluation institute under the Nordic Council of Ministers, are offering a number of stipends to enable practitioners within regional development and spatial planning from the Baltic region (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Belarus and the Russian Federation) to join their European and Nordic neighbours in a number of courses that Nordregio is arranging. The stipend is partly sponsored by the EU Interreg programme IIIB Baltic Sea Region, and covers course fee and most of travel and hotel expenses.

The next course takes place in Oslo 8-10 November, 2006 and is called “Successful cities: Strategies for management”. The deadline for the stipend for this course is 12th September. More information about the course and the stipend: www.nordregio.se/coursenov06.htm.

 
PRESENTATION OF THE SUPPLEMENTED EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC COLLECTION

A year ago the Nordic experimental music collection was created at the library of the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Latvia. The collection includes records from Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. In cooperation with Viestarts Gailitis, organizer of the International Adventurous Music Festival “Skanu Mezs” (Sound Forest) the collection has been supplemented with new items of Nordic performers.

In connection with that a presentation of the supplemented experimental music collection is organized on September 7 at 20:00 at the premises of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia. The presentation is led by Viestarts Gailitis with participation of a special guest BJ Nilsen from Sweden.
