Nordic-Baltic cooperation celebrate 25 years anniversary in 2016. Our countries are bound by shared goals, challenges and common values. But also people and special moments. Richard Bærug is a Norwegian, speaks fluent Latvian. He has lived in Latvia since the beginning of the 1990s and was the first head of the Nordic Council of Ministers Information Office in Latvia and the founder and the vice-rector of Vidzeme University College. Since 2009 has been developing Grand Hotel Ushba in Svaneti, Georgia. Currently a PhD student of Media and Communication at the University of Tartu, Estonia.
On the eve of the Nordic Day, 22 March, a panel discussion was organised in Riga upon the initiative of Jan Widberg, Head of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia. The panel consisted of all the Nordic ambassadors residing in Latvia: H.E. Hans Brask from the Royal Danish Embassy, H.E. Olli Kantanen from the Embassy of Finland, H.E. Steinar Egil Hagen from the Royal Norwegian Embassy, H.E. Henrik Landerholm from the Embassy of Sweden. The discussion was moderated by Rita Ruduša, executive director of the Baltic Centre for Media Excellence, and touched upon the themes of Nordic-Baltic cooperation, today’s challenges and possible future developments.
The main exhibition of the Nordic Baltic designers events “16 Steps Closer” combines 16 different innovative ideas developed by well-known architects, industrial, fashion and product designers from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia especially for this exhibition. Designers’ prior artistic creations are be exhibited along with the new works. Curator of the exhibition: Kari Korkman (Helsinki Design Week).
With the wonderful Danish chair exhibition "The Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition – Whiteout", Nordic Baltic Designers events will start 6th October at Riga Art Space. Whiteout is a result of innovative and surprising ideas. This year exhibition has been in Tokyo and London and now 38 brand new snow-white chairs are coming to Riga.
