Until August 19th be welcome to see the exhibition “Between two reflections” by the Danish artist Yvonne Gerner and Latvian artist Vita Lēnerte (Grasa) at the Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Latvia.
It is Vita Lēnerte’s "fault" that Yvonne Gerner still lives in Latvia. If they had not met at the Latvian Art Academy in 1992, Yvonne would most likely have left Riga a few months later (and perhaps she would be living in Thailand today – but that is another story...).
But they met, as teacher and student, and decided to work together outside the framework of the academy. Yvonne became Vita’s private student.
Ten years have passed since Yvonne completed her studies. Over the years, Vita and Yvonne have returned to the idea of one day having an exhibition together, but not until this spring did their idea turn into substance.
“Between two reflections” is an exhibition, which shows how two artists use the same techniques for their own, individual expression and reflections of the world they see around them. For the viewer, this exhibition also reflects time – time that has passed since the first meeting of two artists, time that carries so many experiences, like “mental prints” of the past.
