Since the beginning of time, in our country spring always ends with „Līgo” songs. This year Midsummer night is also the ending of the NORDIC SPRING – culture program that lasted for several months and was offered by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia, the Royal Danish Embassy, the Embassy of Finland, the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Embassy of Sweden.
The end of the NORDIC SPRING will be celebrated on Monday, 20th of June at 6 pm at the E. Smilgis Theatre Museum (E.Smiļģa iela 37/39, Riga).
This cultural year is dedicated to design in the Nordic countries. Therefore, also the NORDIC SPRING focused on design. The design exhibition “Scandinavian Design Beyond the Myth” was exhibited in Riga at the Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts, design workshops lead by the Nordic designers took place, as well as a conference for Design Museums.
While the design was an essential part of the NORDIC SPRING, each and every event was important. Over 40 different cultural events took place in seven spheres – design, art and architecture, cinema, music, performing arts, literature and various events associated with identity and history.
Since this first NORDIC SPRING has been so popular, it may return again next year with new Nordic cultural events and ideas.
The media representatives are welcome to participate at the closing event if register until the June 20, 12:00 by phone: 7820089.
