From 22nd Desember, 2016 until 24rd January, 2017 the exhibition of the Children´s Book Illustration from the Nordic Countries INTO THE WIND! will be exhibited in the Latvian National Library.
In the early summer of 2016, the Berlin based association kulturkind held the first Into the Wind! Nordic Children’s and Young People’s Literature Days in Berlin. Connected to the festival, kulturkind organized an exhibition of children’s book illustration, together with Nordic House Reykjavik. Seventeen illustrators from Åland, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Sápmi present their work with the theme Into the Wind! - their work’s imagery sits between great tradition, outstanding technical realization, and striking high artistic expression.
Into the Wind! is deliberately diverse – in reference to the nature of northern Europe with its many contrasts and the region’s deeply anchored visual narrative art, as well as to an unwavering Nordic position: children and young people deserve respect. Nordic literature and illustration inspires them to think for themselves and develop their imaginations, and encourages them to be brave, free and wild in their thoughts and feelings – just like the wind.

The exhibition is supported by the Nordic House in Iceland, the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Danish Arts Foundation, the Swedish Arts Council
The exhibition in Latvia is organized by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia and Latvian National Library
