The exhibition Spitsbergen—the Arctic Adventure, will take place from 19 February until 31 May at the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia, Marijas 13/3. Photo exhibition Spitsbergen—the Arctic Adventure is the photographer’s Elīna Banga reminder of the magically savage nature of Spitsbergen and an invitation on a visual journey into the Arctic.
The pictures were taken in the summer of 2008. “Working as a photographer on a cruise ship provided an opportunity to visit the island of Spitsbergen, which I consider a very unique and peculiar place on earth. I always used to document my trips in pictures, thus combining a photographer’s job with travelling was a logical outcome,” said Elīna Banga.
It is Norway’s share of the Arctic territory with a special international status. 99% of the Spitsbergen area is uninhabited. In 2007, the number of Spitsbergen population amounted to only a couple of thousands—2321 persons.
The exhibition will reveal a beautiful slideshow of wondrous observations, where time stands still while nature and man communicate in silence.
