On November 10 at 2.00-4.30 PM (UTC +2) Civic Alliance - Latvia, will hold an online discussion on "How open is society to provide forms of support to strengthen civil society?", to jointly find sustainable thinking solutions, encouraging public involvement in civil society initiatives and motivating individual and corporate donors (volunteering, services, goods and financial donations) to support civil society organizations.
In July and August of this year, the Civic Alliance - Latvia, together with the project partners, the Estonian “Estonian Network of Non-Profit Organizations” and the Swedish “Giva Sverige” conducted a survey to find out the views of non-governmental, business and public support for active civil society. Which are their choices to support or not to support, including how to support the civil society in Covid-19 crisis.
The event on November 10 will present conclusions, finding in the survey, good examples and challenges for civil society, as well as discuss solutions at the national and Baltic Sea region level.
A recently published report, the Civil Society Organization Sustainability Index 2019, concludes that civil society sustainability indicators in Latvia for service delivery have improved, however indicators have been decreased in the legal environments, infrastructure and public image sector. In financial matters, civil society has also faced challenges due to the sharp decline in donations following the tax policy reform in 2017.
If these issues are important to you and you want to help find solutions to support civil society, we invite you to apply for a discussion here by November 9: https://ej.uz/pilsoniskasabiedriba
The discussion is organized by the association Civic Alliance Latvia within the project “Increasing citizen investments in a sustainable civil society in the Baltic Sea region”. The discussion has been organized with the financial support from the Nordic Council of Ministers
