From 11 to 14 November, during the Nordic Literature Week, one of the most prominent children's book illustrators in the Nordic countries Linda Bundestam will visit Latvia. On November 13 she will visit libraries in Broceni and Saldus, but on November 14, she will visit several libraries in Liepaja to offer creative workshops for children. The publishing house “Liels un Mazs” recently has published a poetry book "Animals nobody has seen except us", by the Swedish writer Ulf Stark and the Swedish artist Linda Bondestam. The book has been translated by a Sweden-born Latvian poet and translator Juris Kronbergs. This illustrated book presents 27 species which, no-one but their creators have ever seen – in splendid colours and with ingenious rhymes. The colourful pictures and pithy and melancholy poems about mysterious animals create a world in which the focus is on the essence of existence. The book was awarded the Snöbollen prize for the best Swedish picture book of the year in 2016 and won the Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize in 2017. Ulf Stark (1944-2017) has written nearly 100 books for children and youth and has received numerous awards and nominations. His books have been translated into over 30 languages. Linda Bundestam has illustrated more than 25 books and has been nominated for various literary and art prizes. The visit is organized by the publishing house “Liels un Mazs”, the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia and supported by the Nordic Writers Crossing Borders Program. This year the Nordic Literature Week will take place on November 11th to 17th and invites children, young people and adults to a celebration in the literature.
