The media literacy policy and the national media education policy document “Media literacy in Finland” published by the Ministry of Education and Culture in Finland and Finnish National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI) in 2019, now has been published in Latvian. The objective of this publication is to promote people’s willingness and ability to act actively and responsibly in media culture and to improve everyone’s opportunities to develop their media literacy.
Finnish media education has long traditions, where cross-sectoral and multidisciplinary collaboration is imperative in order for media education, research and other related actions and support services to reach everyone in Finland.
Today's media culture is global, and also the media education must be global. Local and national activities are very important in all areas of education, but international networking and the development of cross-border media literacy are also very much needed.
The Latvian translation of the Finnish media literacy policy has been initiated and financially supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Latvia. The publication is available at www.norden.lv
